Oversaw daily coverage of local, national and major international stories for the largest Spanish-language newspaper in New York, and with over a quarter million daily readers, the third largest in the United States. Managed a team of 12 full-time journalists in New York and New Jersey, as well as correspondents and freelancers in Latin America. Worked to integrate El Diario’s multimedia, online and print journalist teams and work flow. Oversaw several award-winning multimedia projects, including Latino Vote, a two-year effort to cover the 2008 presidential election from several states, and Dirty Work: Hispanic Immigrants Clean the Gulf on the impact of BP’s oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the largest marine oil spill in the history of the petroleum industry, from the perspective of Hispanic clean-up workers. Produced myself the award-winning multimedia projects War in the Honduran Forests, which documented how U.S. and European demand for cheap wood fuelled illegal logging, corruption and violence in Honduras, and its impact on the livelihoods of peasants and indigenous communities, and Bushwick is dying, on the impact of the 2010 US foreclosure crisis on minority communities. These projects included video, podcasts, slideshows, and interactive graphics.
